ITU RELEASE: ITU Releases Call for Bids for Triathlon World
Championship Series
Vancouver, Canada (July 7th, 2009) -
The International Triathlon Union (ITU), today, extended an invitation to potential host cities to bid for the 2010 Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series and the 2012 Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Grand Final.
Hosting one of the premier events in triathlon offers exceptional opportunities to showcase a host city, attract significant numbers of tourists, create a sporting legacy, engage communities and offer mass participation possibilities.
The Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series consists of 7 exclusive world championship events, and a Grand Final. Each event has world championship status and offers an opportunity to present the world's finest triathletes in competition, including the Olympic medallists.
The Grand Final includes the ITU annual age group championship, and, in 2012 is expected to attract almost 6000 plus age group athletes in both the Sprint and Standard distance of triathlon, offering a substantial sport tourism opportunity
In 2009 the series spanned such renowned cities as London and Washington D.C. The Grand Final is scheduled to take place in Gold Coast Australia in a week-long Festival of Triathlon, that includes categories from Junior, Age Group, Paratriathlon, Corporate and Elite races.
All events are broadcast live and distributed globally by SPORTFIVE as well as having a highlight show on national free to air broadcasters in over 30 major markets. Additionally, the series attracts extensive international print media and internet coverage

The bid process commences July 8, and if followed by a bid submission and evaluation period with successful candidates being announce September 30, 2009
