TriAD's 6th Mayor's Cup Age Group Triathlon 2009

With all the months of preparation completed, all that is left to do that cold Sunday
morning is to wait and see how the 6th Mayor’s Cup Age-Group Triathlon unfolds. 
Presented by the Triathlon Association of Davao (TriAD) set at the Queensland
Baywalk, Matina, Davao City, ninety five athletes prepared to race this year’s route  
which included a one-kilometer SWIM, A 30K BIKE and an 8K RUN. 

Australian Elite ROHAN FORCE emerged as the over all winner as he took home the
gold with a time of 1:39:38. JEMARVIN CABILAN is 1st Runner-up with 1:41:04 and finally
JONARD SAIM 2nd Runner-up finishing the race at 1:42:17. Below 19 was championed
by 19 year old ROLAND JOHN CABIGAS (1:51) with Philippine Science junior high stud
GIAN KARLO SAM upholding the 2nd place . The 20-24 age group was led by Manila
Polo Tri’s JAN HARLEY BANGAYAN (1:52:00) with Marjun Balaite and Dennis Cubelo
grabbing 1st and 2nd Runner-up respectively. The 25-29 category brought forward PAULO
DINO OUANO (1:51:01)1st,2nd-Ronald Dagaang,3rd- Lee Bryan Leyritana. A stronger
CHRISTOPHER EYAO of Mulatto and Metro Lifestyle spearheaded the 30-34 age-group
with 1:45:41 with Balikbayan Keith James Aragones placing 2nd and Ray Sarona 3rd.
The 35-39 group was dominated by RONALD PARANTAN (1:53:22) along with Peter
Noel Caitum, 2nd and PNRC’s John Valmoria grabbing the 3rd slot.  TriAD’s playing
coach ALEXANDER SAM of Globe Telecom edged out the most crowded age-group
category 40-44 as he protected the top rank with 1:57:10 with the Philippine’s  first
Strongman ARTHUR COMPRA capturing the 1st Runner-up slot with 2:00:04 and Italian
William Profili got his hands on the 2nd Runner-up medal with 2:00:31.  Davao Oriental’s
FELIX FRANCISCO MONTILLA primed the 45-49 category with 1:59:19 with Rey John
Tan and Mandy Dinglasan getting hold of the 2nd and 3rd place.  EDGARDO VILLAR of
Tagum lorded the 50 above category with 1:54:12 and Romeo Abrea coming after him. 
University of the Philippines 15 year old PAULINE FORNEA chopped down the Female
Category with a 2:12:47 while PWU high school teacher COSETTE PLAZA got through
the tape 2nd and Mulatto’s team player Cheryl Araneta succeeded with a 3rd place over-all.
Registered Nurse and Licensed Physical Therapist FELINA TADIAMAN finished the
course 1st in the 30-34 category with 2:36:56 followed by fitness instructor IVY
HERRERO-KO.  IBM executive MAEJ VILLANUEVA is a rookie finishing the event 1st in
the 25-29 age group.  Not to be overlooked is the relay category with seven teams joining
the race this year and the best result claimed by TEAM EVERFLEX (1:34:22), with Rey
Sabs Industrial Sales and Service and Mulatto managing a strong 2nd and 3rd finish. 

This year’s event was made more exciting with triathletes from Bukidnon, Cagayan de
Oro and other parts of the country wanting to do record setting results with 5 foreign
nationals and a good number of newcomer’s trying the sport for the first time.  Not to
forget is the presence of the ardent triathletes whose ultimate passion for triathlon
remains unfading that no matter what the results are, they just keep coming back for
more.  TriAD’s President, Dr. Oscar Escudero is excited by the prospect of developing
homegrown athletes to go the distance for there is an upsurge of people wanting to try
the adrenaline rush promised in taking on the challenges brought forth by TRIATHLON.
Next stop, National Age-Group Triathlon Series, Davao City (March), Subic Int’l Triathlon
(May) and the 70.3 Ironman, CamSur (August).
